Why didn't I think of that? I love the black table. Do you have to give it back to your aunt or is your to keep? Also, Pottery Barn shelf...awesome. Those things can be painted tons of times and moved around in any room, but alphabetical order on the books, whew!!
Just so you know...the goat is up for grabs (after she finishes eating our poison ivy, of course)!Jen - Balancing Beauty and Bedlamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09152743288585898776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-307426128801852767.post-15500548499391601962008-07-24T09:26:00.000-04:002008-07-24T09:26:00.000-04:00Hi Lauren!I'm one of Leah's friends, and I found y...Hi Lauren!

I'm one of Leah's friends, and I found your blog through hers. Also, I have to thank you because I found the Nester's blog through YOURS! And honestly, I've been busying myself making window mistreatments ever since! (My boyrfiend thinks I'm insane). I, too, would love an audience like the Nester and her sister have!

Anyway, I have had the same problem as you figuring out what to put on huge, long walls. I will have to send you pics of some of my solutions, but here are a few suggestions:

First, I'm sure you remember this post by Nester:
http://nestingplacenc.blogspot.com/2008/01/bored_21.html
She's a genius, it's really that simple.

Second, you could always get a big mirror and hang it horizontally. That helps add depth to the room. I did this and flanked each end with candle sconces in my dining room. You could also find some shutters and paint them and hang them horizontally, I am planning on doing that above my bed as a headboard. You can also get really long, skinny canvases and either cover them in fabric or paint them like Jennifer P. suggested. The idea about shelving with photos on them is great, too. You seem very artistic, I'm sure you can come up with great ideas! Can't wait to see what you do with it all!TupeloLovehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04425021977803029576noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-307426128801852767.post-86848340710116524432008-07-24T01:57:00.000-04:002008-07-24T01:57:00.000-04:00That's some good free stuff! Mitchell Gold is my ...That's some good free stuff! Mitchell Gold is my favorite! I think that ottoman is called his "Gotham". If you want free, cheap art--one of my favorite tactics is to just buy oversize canvases and paint them in solid colors. I also love covering hollow core doors in material and just leaning them up against the wall (HUGE impact, not much money--less than the canvases in fact!). I have a tutorial on my blog about how to do the door thing. I think I did it back in February(?)....hate to make you go searching through my archives for it--just know it's not hard.

Keep commenting :)!---it takes a little while before you build up an audience, but pretty soon you, too, can be up past midnight just trying to "visit" all your new friends :)!Jennifer P.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03907178224086726030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-307426128801852767.post-80518358738644453082008-07-23T12:49:00.000-04:002008-07-23T12:49:00.000-04:00Wow! Your house doesnt LOOK like it's decorated w/ free stuff... it's coming together nicely.

I had the same big wall problem, but was too cheap to buy anything new. I used what I had and did this:

http://mabelshouse.blogspot.com/2008/01/salon-wall-solution.html

Also, you might think about two long shelves, one above the other that stretch the lenght of the wall and you could lean different sized framed photos along them. Does that make sense? I've seen it done in Pottery Barn a lot.Liz Harrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08085308886362660283noreply@blogger.com
